Jannik Sinner Claims His 10th Career Title In Vienna

Jannik Sinner prevailed at the Vienna Open in Austria as he defeated defending champion Daniil Medvedev in three thrilling sets 7-6(7), 4-6, 6-3 in 3 hours and 5 minutes. This was the fourth finals meeting between Sinner and Medvedev in 2023. The latter won the first two finals meeting in Rotterdam and Miami early this year and the former claimed Beijing and Vienna this month. It was a fantastic finals match between the top two seeds, with insane long rallies and shot-making from both players. Sinner improved to 2-6 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head Series.

The scores in the first two sets were super tight, and things turned quickly in the third set where Medvedev had to save 8 breakpoints before finally being broken by Sinner and trailing 1-3. However, Medvedev immediately broke back again and was serving to hold at 2-3, but failed to do so allowing Sinner to lead 4-2.

Medvedev saved a championship point at 2-5 and managed to hold and bring the score to 3-5 with Sinner serving for the match. Medvedev got the upper hand leading 0-40 up, but Sinner saved 3 breakpoints before finally claiming the win from Daniil Medvedev.

Once again, Daniil Medvedev was unable to defend his title. He still has not been able to win the same title two times in a row, something the world No. 3 really hopes to do. The current world No. 4 Jannik Sinner is having his best season, claiming 4 titles this season including his maiden Masters 1000 title. They have both qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, and will play the Paris Masters before heading there. We look forward to the last stretch of the season!
