Over the years, the popularity of tennis has grown significantly and so has the number of tennis courts in Singapore. We have seen some exciting new facilities crop up in the east. One of them being the four newly-surfaced courts at SUTD.

Located near the university campus, the SUTD Recreation and Sports Centre has a vibrant and spacious atmosphere. The four courts are located on the roof, which allows for a pleasant breeze to accompany you during your hit - and also plenty of sunshine!

Although the booking of facilities for recreational use is restricted to students and staff, SUTD, in partnership with Play! Tennis Singapore, offers regular social sessions where you can meet and practice with others.

Heartbeat@Bedok

Heartbeat Bedok Tennis Court

As its name suggests, Heartbeat @ Bedok is situated in the heart of Bedok and is bustling with energy. With a myriad of activities and facilities open to the public, this really is a go-to place if you live around the area. There are a total of 6 indoor tennis courts available for bookings under ActiveSG and are well maintained and lit. Rain or shine, lessons still go on. Toilets and surrounding amenities are clean and sanitary, making the tennis courts at Heartbeat @ Bedok a crowd favourite.

Heartbeat @ Bedok is easily accessible, located just 5 mins walk from Bedok MRT station and bus interchange. With fuss-free access to nearby commercial malls, you would be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing food after an intense tennis lesson!

Here, you’ll be able to feel a sense of camaraderie among the residents, with neighbourhood shops housed under the nearby blocks and a common area for folks to chill and watch programs on a giant screen. Red Quarters

Red Quarters Tennis Court

Play! Tennis Singapore conducts their kids camp at Red Quarters. It is a favourite with the kids, as it offers an indoor court so you do not have to worry about catching a sunburn or having your tennis lessons postponed when it rains.

The court is well ventilated and clean, and the vinyl flooring makes it comfortable to move around and is also easy on your knees.

Red Quarters is located near Kallang Tennis Centre and is easily accessible by foot from Mountbatten MRT. It is about a 5 minute walk from the popular Kallang fast food eateries – McDonalds and KFC - and about a 10 minute walk from Kallang Leisure Park.

For a quick, post-tennis meal, you can head over to the coffee shop just down the end of Jln Benaan Kapal, which offers a good range of local food.

Kallang Tennis Centre

Opened as a community sports facility in 1978, Kallang Tennis Centre is part of the Kallang Sports Centre and is positioned right across from the Kallang Field. With a total of 14 courts, including 2 practice walls, Kallang Tennis Centre is a popular venue for local junior tournaments and even international ones such as the Youth Olympic Games held in 2010. Kallang Tennis Centre is located near Mountbatten & Stadium MRT stations, which are both on the Circle Line. Getting there is a 5 to 10 minutes walk from either MRT station.

You can head over to the countless eateries and malls situated near Kallang Tennis Centre to grab a bite after a good sweat session. Right across from the tennis centre are drive-thru fast food restaurants McDonalds and KFC, and Kallang Wave Mall is just about a 5 minute walk down. If you’re looking for tennis rackets or balls, you could also swing by Play! Tennis store nearby at Red Quarters.

St Wilfred Tennis Centre

To get to St Wilfred Tennis Centre, you would need to hop on a bus from Boon Keng MRT station. With 4 tennis courts available, St Wilfred Tennis Centre is popular among those who live in the area. While it’s more convenient to head in by car as it’s accessible through PIE, KPE and CTE, St Wilfred is popular due to its central location.

Apart from the tennis courts, there is also a large field, 2 futsal and squash courts adjacent to each other. The amenities at St Wilfred Tennis Centre are decent – with showers, toilets and water coolers. Around the area, there are small eateries and food courts where you can sit and chill after your tennis lesson. You can also visit the popular Boon Tong Kee or Selegie Beancurd store nearby, which are both highly raved about. The area around St Wilfred Tennis Centre exudes a Kampong vibe, possibly stemming from its surroundings being crowned one of the oldest estates in Singapore.

Kampong Glam CC

Tucked away in the bustling vicinity of Kampong Glam, the tennis courts at Kampong Glam CC offer a pleasant respite from the heat and crowds. Kampong Glam CC is conveniently located along Beach Road next to the Army Market and Golden Mile Food Centre. It is the only CC in Singapore with a tennis court, and it is a good venue to have your private tennis classes.

There are also numerous other facilities available at the CC which are open for use. The tennis court at Kampong Glam CC is a hot favourite for those living or working in the central location.

Court bookings at Kampong Glam CC are under onePA and open 15 days before the booking date. You are required to book 2 hours at a time and it costs $14 to $20 for non-peak hours and $24 to $36 for peak hours. There are only 5 booking slots per day so you’ll need to be on your toes once the court is open for booking!

With plenty of food options available around Kampong Glam CC, you won’t have to worry about what to eat after your lesson. Whether it’s Thai, Malay, Chinese, Western or any cuisine, you name it!

Yio Chu Kang Tennis Centre

Yio Chu Kang Tennis Centre is well known for its large number of courts. A whopping 9 courts in total, you can book the courts through the ActiveSG. Yio Chu Kang Tennis Centre is popular among residents of the North-East of Singapore and is easily accessible from Yio Chu Kang MRT and bus interchange, which is about a 3 minute walk away.

Yio Chu Kang Tennis Centre is located right beside the squash centre and also the swimming complex. Overall, the place is perfect as it is away from the hustle and bustle of the city crowd, so you can focus on your lesson.

The food options at Yio Chu Kang Tennis Centre is fairly limited, with only Sakura International Buffet nearby. Alternatively, you can head to the several food courts available at Nanyang Polytechnic nearby or to Ang Mo Kio Hub for a greater selection of food options.

Burghley Tennis Centre

Apart from functioning as a recreational space, Burghley Tennis Centre also hosts tennis lessons. These lessons are particularly convenient for residents living near Serangoon, Ang Mo Kio, and Burghley.

In addition to tennis, the centre also houses facilities for squash, managed by Sport Singapore. The Burghley Squash & Tennis Centre is a known spot among locals, with its location and facilities attracting numerous visitors.
